DFINT-3A is a fully computer-controlled interferometry-based direction-finding system operating in the 20 to 1,200 MHz band. Reportedly it can be operated by one soldier.
The system is integrated in a 4 × 4 drive vehicle and can be operated from external power sources. Additionally, a built-in battery bank is kept ready for silent missions.
DFINT-3A is able to locate and track target transmitters by collaborating with additional system(s) via VHF/FM or wired nets. Its full automatic mode renders operators at wing stations unnecessary, allowing unmanned missions.
Utilising DSP, DFINT-3A has a band scan speed sufficient to intercept and DF state-of-the-art frequency hopping and burst emissions. Demonstrated field accuracy is better than 1.5° RMS with a LOB (Line Of Bearing) resolution of 0.1°.
By means of a keypad including soft keys, a trackerball and a colour monitor, DFINT-3A offers menu-driven operation and various interactive data presentations in either graphical or list formats. These include: the interception of frequency-hopping emitters with simultaneous real-time LOB versus frequency and amplitude versus frequency graphics in DF SCAN-1 mode; band search and listen with scanned band spectrum, narrowband spectrum and polar LOB graphics in DF SCAN-2 mode; fast scanning and/or monitoring of targets in the system database with on-screen 4 MHz wide panoramic spectrum, narrowband spectrum and polar LOB plot in DF STEP mode; separate menu control for each monitoring receiver; location fixing on digital map; and digital audio recorder menu with record, playback and database operations.
DFINT-3A contains two additional monitoring receivers, two dual-track tape recorders, a built-in GPS receiver and an electronic compass.
