2 to18 GHz band radar Electronic Support (ES) system
Functionally, the ARES-2N naval radar ES system detects, intercepts, identifies, classifies, tracks, Direction-Finds (DF), localises, platform correlates, records and provides audio warnings of threat signals within the 2 to 18 GHz frequency band. As such, it provides a wideband intercept capability and makes use of a combination of wide frequency band monopulse DF and a high signal processing speed to process 'complex' radar signals. Aselsan flags the architecture's precision parameter measurement and 'advanced' emitter characterisation capabilities as being 'key' system features and notes that it can trace marked emitters and locate them automatically. Again, ARES-2N's 'wide' bandwidth is claimed to provide an 'extremely high' probability-of-intercept capability, with 'high' processing sensitivity facilitating long-range emitter and low effective radiated power radar detection. ARES-2N's bandwidth selectivity is further noted as proofing the system against the drop in sensitivity that Aselsan notes as occurring in wide-open systems when confronted with continuous wave or pulse Doppler signals. Other system features include:

• use of digital receiver technology for narrow band functionality
• 360° coverage in azimuth
• amplitude and vector comparison monopulse DF
• parameter measurement that includes signal frequency, modulation type, pulse repetition frequency, pulsewidth and scan type
• a low probability-of-intercept emitter detection capability
• interpulse and intrapulse analysis
• target locations presented on a digital map
• specific target alarm generation
• generation of an electronic warfare threat library (intelligence data).
